Thanks to a generous donation by Puddletown Chess, female players up to age 18 may play for free in the following monthly events in 2025: the Game in 60, Tuesday Quads, Wednesday Quads, Wednesday Blitz, and Sunday Quads.
Format: 3-round quads. At least some of the sections may run as a 3 or 4-round Swiss with more than four players at the TD's discretion. The official US Chess OTB regular ratings are generally used.
Time Control: G/45;inc10 (forty-five minutes per player with ten seconds added for each move).
Schedule: On-site registration runs from 9:30-10am. The rounds are at 10:15am or ASAP, 12:15pm, and 2:15pm. Rounds 2 and 3 can be started earlier if both players agree. Players who have a game go long can request extra time off before the next round.
Entry Fee: $20, $15 for Portland Chess Club members. Pay during on-site registration with cash, check payable to the Portland Chess Club, or PayPal at email@pdxchess.org.
Rated: US Chess dual rated (regular and quick). US Chess membership is required: US Chess membership rates/information/benefits. Rose City Chess is currently offering discounted memberships for any player under age 18 at the time of redemption here.
Prizes: $40 to the winner of each section. In a six or seven player Swiss, the runner-up receives $20. Prizes are combined and split if there is a tie.
Qualifiers: This tournament is a qualifier for the Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation State Championship (unless the tournament falls on or up to ten days prior to the final day of the state championship)
